Alexandria Bay Real Estate

Alexandria Bay or Alex Bay as the locals call it is located in the heart of the Thousand Islands. Where else can you find a hospital with an amazing view of the St. Lawrence River? By boat or by car River Hospital is there offering inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Just down the road from the hospital is a small park located on the river, the perfect place to spend the day enjoying the sun, the shipping channel view and a spectacular view of Boldt Castle.
A true story of love, George Bold proprietor of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel commissioned the building of a 120 room mansion modeled after a Rhineland Castle with the plan to present it to his wife on Valentine’s Day. George’s dream came to a sad end when his wife Louise died in January 1904. It is reported that George ordered all work stopped and he never went back to Heart Island. In 1977 the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired the property and has been restoring the castle to what it would have looked like if completed in the early 1900s. Plan to take the Uncle Sam Boat Tour and stop at Boldt Castle; you will be amazed. The restoration of the Castle is ongoing and the gardens are beautiful. While there make sure to visit the Yacht House located on Wellesley Island.
Another claim to fame for Alexandria Bay is the Bill Johnson Pirate Days. For 10 days the village of Alex Bay is taken over by pirates, block dances, invasions and lots of fun activities for young and old alike.
In the summer activities abound from Poker Runs with high performance racing boats to the Vintage Boat Show sponsored by the Antique and Classic Boat Society, the 1000 Islands Chapter. For the music lovers there is Rockin the Bay and Blues in the Bay, car lovers will put the Classic Rock and Classic Car show on their list and the motorcycle enthusiasts will be sure to take part in the Thousand Islands River Run Motorcycle Rally.
Alex Bay in the summer time is a hub of activity. In the winter life slows way down with much of downtown Alex Bay closed until the spring; but don’t despair the grocery store, drug store, hospital, library and banks remain open.
